Football Franchise GM League
Draft a full roster position by position, then simulate the season and find out whether your team can finish 20-0.
Sport hub · 28 guides · 4 calculators
American football is a game of specialists: eleven players a side, separate units for offence, defence and special teams, and a quarterback who handles the ball on nearly every offensive play. That structure is why depth charts, positional value and clock management matter as much as any single rating, and it is what these guides explain. (In these hubs, “football” on its own means the American game; association football has its own hub under soccer.)
Two of our apps approach it from opposite sides of the building. Football Franchise GM League has you draft a full roster position by position and simulate the season, with Franchise and GM modes for the longer run. Football Career Sim 2026 puts you behind centre for one quarterback’s career, from youth football through the combine and the draft to a starting job. The guides explain the real game first, then what a simulator does with it.

Create a quarterback, read defences, survive the draft and win the starting job across a full American football career.
Football Franchise GM League is the general manager’s view: fill every slot under the draft rules you pick — unlimited, limited with no refreshes, salary cap or playoff mode — then let the season simulator judge the roster. Football Career Sim 2026 is the quarterback’s view: read the defence, choose the target, call audibles and manage the clock while your coach’s trust and the depth chart respond. If you like building rosters, start with the GM game; if you would rather play the position, start with the career sim.
The positions guide explains what every slot contributes and what each one is worth on a draft board, and the quarterback archetypes guide covers the position that handles the ball on nearly every offensive play.
Passer rating has been the NFL’s official way of rating passers since 1973. It is built from completion rate, yards per attempt, touchdowns and interceptions, and the passer rating calculator shows each of the four components so you can see what is driving a number.
Reading a defence and managing the last two minutes are where a quarterback career is won or lost; depth charts, draft order and the draft board are where a franchise is.
Why football rosters are a unit problem, what a no-refresh draft really tests, and how to read a simulated season record for what it actually measures.
How the 14-team NFL playoff field is built: division winners and wild cards, why only the No. 1 seed rests, how reseeding works and how ties are broken.
American football from the first snap: 11 players a side, four downs to gain 10 yards, what each score is worth and why, and how the field is laid out.
How the 2026 NFL kickoff works: where both teams line up, where the ball must land, where touchbacks are spotted, and when an onside kick can be declared.
How NFL overtime works in 2026: a 10-minute regular-season period that can end tied, playoff periods that last until someone wins, and how college differs.
What an RPO and a play-action pass each ask one defender to decide, why the run is real in one and fake in the other, and the lineman rule that separates them.
What every football position actually does, which groups are scarce, and how to read a position before you spend a draft pick filling it.
Reverse-standings ordering, tiebreakers, compensatory picks and trades — how a draft order is built, and what changes when a simulation generates one instead.
Expected points put a value on every down, distance and yard line, and EPA measures how much one play changed it. A worked drive shows how success rate differs.
How the 4-3 and 3-4 fronts line up, where each gets its pass rush, when a nickel package replaces them, and what each front asks of a roster.
How NFL draft pick value charts price trades, where the best-known chart came from, and what research on surplus value found about the cost of top picks.
How offences count backs, tight ends and receivers, what 11, 12 and 21 personnel mean, how defences answer them, and what that means for a roster.
What the landmark fourth-down studies found, the break-even yardage they estimated across the field, and why tracking data shrinks the case for aggression.
What a scouting combine is, which tests make up the battery, and what published research says about how well those tests predict draft position and performance.
Which plays stop the clock, what a timeout is really worth, how the ten-second runoff works, and why a completion can be worse than an incompletion.
Safety count, leverage and pre-snap movement — the three cues that tell you most about what a defence intends, explained for simulation and career-mode players.
A draft board is a decision tool, not a ranked list. How to build one from tiers, cliffs and roster structure, and how to run it without abandoning it.
What the number in Cover 1, 2, 3 and 4 counts, how each coverage splits the field between deep and underneath defenders, and where each one is thinnest.
What each NFL tag lets a team and rival clubs do, how the one-year salary is calculated, why repeat tags cost more, and how a club chooses between them.
No NFL team has gone 20-0. The only perfect season was 17-0 in 1972. Here is the record, the near misses, and why today's perfect season is 20 games long.
One hypothetical contract followed through the NFL cap: how signing bonuses prorate, what accelerates on a release, the June 1 split, rollover and void years.
What common NFL fouls cost under the 2026 rulebook: 5, 10 or 15 yards, loss of down or an automatic first down, and when a team declines the penalty.
Why NFL rookie pay is set largely by draft slot, how long rookie deals run, what later-round picks can earn, and how the first-round fifth-year option works.
A when-to-go-for-two chart rebuilt from scoring values, the expected-value test underneath it, and the NFL's official two-point success rates through 2025.
How archetype, reads, audibles and clock management decide a quarterback career in Football Career Sim 2026 — and which early decisions actually compound.
Pocket passer, scrambler, field general, dual-threat: what each archetype actually trades away, and how the choice changes the decisions a game offers you.
