About this app
Learn Cambodian, Speak Khmer starts where a beginner has to start: the Khmer script. Consonants, vowels and numbers arrive with pronunciation help, romanised spelling and tracing practice, so reading and writing develop alongside speaking rather than being put off. Khmer speakers can run the course in the other direction and study English with Khmer explanations.
Vocabulary is grouped the way you would need it — greetings, family, food and drink, shopping, directions, transport, hotels, restaurants, school, work, health, emergencies, weather, money and time. Words and phrases can be tapped to hear, played back slowly and repeated after, and listening activities check that you can still pick them out at normal speed. Grammar lessons cover sentence structure, pronouns, questions, negatives, polite speech, time expressions, particles and word order, which is enough to build your own sentences rather than only recite set ones.
The travel material is specific to Cambodia, covering Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, Angkor Wat, Battambang, Kampot, Kep and Sihanoukville, along with airport arrivals, hotels, tuk-tuks and taxis, market bargaining, ordering food, temple etiquette, currency, pharmacies and emergencies. Culture lessons run beside it, taking in history, landmarks, food, holidays, customs, proverbs and practical travel tips. Matching games, fill-in-the-blank questions, phrase building, flashcards you build and shuffle yourself, pronunciation lab exercises, speaking missions, stories, roleplays, daily challenges and speed rounds stop the practice settling into one shape.
