That last row is the most telling. When a career sim goes badly, it feels like something happened to you. When a manager game goes badly, it feels like you made a mistake several months earlier. Different people find each of those more or less tolerable.
What career sims are good at
Narrative. Following one player through school, a draft, a breakthrough and a decline produces a shape that a spreadsheet does not. The story is emergent rather than written, which is why two players' accounts of the same game are genuinely different.
Teaching a sport. A career sim introduces the vocabulary one perspective at a time. You learn what a closer is by being one, rather than by reading a roster screen with a closer on it.
Short sessions. A decision is a complete unit. You can open the game, resolve one plate appearance, and close it without leaving anything unfinished.

What career sims are bad at
Control. You are one player on a team you do not pick. A great season on a poor team is a real and frustrating outcome, and no amount of good decisions fixes it.
Long-run agency. Your influence over a season is bounded. If you want the outcome to be attributable to your choices, this is the wrong format.
Statistical legibility. Your numbers are shaped by your role and your teammates, which makes self-assessment harder than it looks.
What manager games are good at
Attributable outcomes. The roster is yours. If it wins, that is your work. If it fails, the failure is diagnosable, and diagnosing it is much of the fun.
Depth per save. A squad can be rebuilt, retooled, aged out and replaced across many seasons without the game running out of decisions.

What manager games are bad at
Immediacy. Most decisions pay off in simulated weeks. The gap between action and feedback is the format's biggest cost.
Session length. The natural unit is large. Stopping mid-window or mid-match leaves state you have to reload mentally.
Onboarding. A roster screen assumes you already know what the positions are worth. That is a real barrier for someone new to the sport.
